Sell out crowd for the concert for People’s Cafe

The fundraising Concert for People’s Cafe was a big success, with a sell-out crowd enjoying a world food buffet, and performances from a range of local musicians. Guests also bid for a variety of experiences and offers in an auction of promises.

Held in St Christopher’s church hall on Saturday the 25th of January, the concert was raising money for the first funding round for the proposed cafe and community hub in People’s Park.

Artists on the bill included Sam and Sara Hargreaves, jazz singer Konni Deppe, Andy and Jenny Flannagan, and local soul artist Shenai. “It was wonderful to see the community come together, and realise how much talent and capacity there already is in High Town” said Andy Flannagan, singer-songwriter, author and one of the community cafe’s directors. “It was a great evening’s entertainment, and so inspiring to see people’s enthusiasm for the project, and their generosity in supporting it.”

The auction of promises was a rowdy part of the evening, with frenzied bidding over local offers such as singing lessons, a bee-keeping session, or a catered dinner party.

With all tickets sold, and generous bidding at the auction, we are a whisker away from meeting our £7,000 target for the first round of funding. Stay tuned for updates on when we meet the total!
